Avery and Dalton’s story began with a little encouragement from the people who knew them best. After weeks of convincing from her friend Sydney, Avery finally agreed to a double date with Sydney and Drew at Shuffles, a board game restaurant in Tulsa. Dalton quickly revealed his competitive side, but beyond the games, he was quiet and reserved enough that Avery left wondering if he might simply be “too nice.” Her mom encouraged her to give him another chance, and thankfully, she did.
Their second date at a Tulsa Roughnecks game was when everything began to shift. Somewhere in the middle of conversation, Avery mentioned that her family owned land south of Tulsa, and suddenly Dalton had plenty to say. What had felt like shyness on their first date disappeared, and the connection between them became undeniable. From that point forward, being together felt easy. They quickly became inseparable, discovering that even the simplest parts of life were simply more fun when they were sharing them.
As their relationship deepened, Avery began to recognize that the qualities she had once questioned were the very ones that made Dalton so special. One night, when her grandfather was in the hospital, Dalton drove her across town in the middle of the night so she could be with her family. It was a quiet gesture, but one that told Avery everything she needed to know about the kind of man he was.
Family had always been deeply important to both of them, and as they became part of one another’s lives, getting to know each other’s families only strengthened what they already knew. The kindness, loyalty, and character they loved in one another weren’t simply qualities reserved for their relationship. They were woven into who each of them truly was.
When it came time to propose, Dalton found a way to bring those same meaningful pieces of their story together. Avery believed she was heading to family pictures, completely unaware that Dalton had secretly gathered both of their families for the occasion. Among them were her dad and stepmom, whom Avery had already said goodbye to before they left overseas for a year, making their presence an especially unexpected part of the surprise.
Overlooking the Tulsa skyline and the OSU tower, Dalton brought Avery back to the place where he had first asked her to be his girlfriend. This time, he asked her an even more important question.
Avery immediately said yes.
It was a moment surrounded by the people they loved, in a place already woven into their history together, and for Avery, there was never any uncertainty. Dalton was exactly the man she had always prayed for.
Now, as they look toward marriage, Avery and Dalton are equally excited for everything that comes after the wedding day. Dalton has already purchased the home where they will begin their life together, and the two look forward to filling it with the same things that have defined their relationship from the beginning: family, friendship, laughter, and the simple joy of doing life side by side.
For Avery and Dalton, their story may have started with a double date they almost never went on, but it became something neither of them could imagine living without. Surrounded by the friends and family who helped bring them together, they are ready for the sweetest chapter yet, a lifetime together.
