Kathryn and James’ story began at the University of Central Oklahoma, where they both arrived from small towns ready to begin a new chapter. Neither of them knew just how much those years would shape their lives or that UCO would ultimately lead them to one another.
James had noticed Kathryn from the very beginning, carrying a crush on her since freshman year, but it was not until their junior year that their friendship became something more. What began naturally soon turned into the kind of relationship that simply felt right.
Their first date was sweet and uncomplicated, ice cream at Andy’s and plenty of conversation. But it was what happened the following day that Kathryn still remembers as one of the first signs that James was someone special. After accidentally leaving her purse in his car, she realized he was already an hour and a half away on his way to visit family. Without hesitation, James turned around and drove all the way back to return it to her. It was a simple gesture, but one that said so much about the kind of care he would continue to show throughout their relationship.
Over the years, Kathryn and James became not only partners, but truly best friends. Their time at UCO gave them the opportunity to grow alongside one another through classes, campus organizations, leadership roles, and the many responsibilities that came with them. They learned how to encourage one another, celebrate each other’s accomplishments, and navigate busy seasons as a team.
Some of their favorite memories have unfolded along the way. They were crowned UCO Homecoming Royalty together, traveled to London on a study tour, and are now pursuing their MBAs side by side. Each new experience has become another piece of a story built on friendship, shared ambition, and the joy of experiencing life together.
It only made sense that when James was ready to propose, he brought their story back to where it all began. After walking through campus and reminiscing about the memories they had made there, James asked Kathryn to marry him at UCO. Meaningful, intimate, and completely personal to them, it was the sweetest full circle moment.
Today, Kathryn and James still find the most joy in the everyday things. Trying new restaurants, studying together, traveling somewhere new, making each other laugh, and singing in the car on long drives are all part of the life they have built together.
And now, they are stepping into their favorite chapter yet.
