A few months later, during a getaway to Breckenridge, Ashlynn playfully encouraged Kurt to finally ask her on a date. He happily obliged, and what had been quietly building between them began to take shape.
Their relationship became official during a weekend trip to Oklahoma with their mutual friend. One evening, Ashlynn and Kurt took a walk by the lake and eventually found themselves lying in the middle of a quiet road beneath the stars, talking about life and everything that had brought them to that moment. On the walk back, they decided they were ready to choose one another in a new way.
October 2023 marked the beginning of their relationship, and from that point forward, they were rarely apart.
Oklahoma soon became another meaningful chapter in their story. Moving there together gave Kurt the opportunity to become even closer with Ashlynn’s family and allowed the two of them to begin building a life that felt entirely their own.
When Kurt was ready to propose, he planned a weekend in Tulsa around one of the city’s most beautiful landmarks, the Philbrook Museum. As they explored the grounds, Kurt anxiously waited for the photographer to get into position.
Ashlynn noticed someone taking photos from a distance but thought little of it.
Then, as they made their way down the steps, Kurt got down on one knee.
Before he could say much at all, Ashlynn answered with an enthusiastic yes.
The celebration that followed was filled with the people they loved most and the excitement of finally sharing the news that another chapter of their story was beginning.
When it came time to choose where they would marry, returning to Colorado felt inevitable. It was where their story had started and where so many of their earliest memories together had been made.
Buena Vista carried even more meaning. It was the first place Kurt had spent meaningful time with Ashlynn’s family during a family vacation, and with his love for fly fishing, the Surf Hotel’s setting along the Arkansas River felt especially fitting.
Their wedding destination became a reflection of the life they had built together: adventurous, intentional, deeply personal, and rooted in the places and people that shaped them.
Away from wedding plans, Ashlynn and Kurt are happiest simply doing life together. They love discovering new restaurants, traveling, cooking at home, golfing, fishing, working out, and ending the day on the couch with one of their favorite shows.
And woven into nearly every part of their everyday life is Banks.
Originally Kurt’s dog, Banks quickly became just as much Ashlynn’s, and she happily embraced becoming his new “momma.” Long walks together have become one of the many ordinary routines that make their life feel especially full.
